The ultimate storage guide for Christmas 2023

1. Cheese

Wrap semi-hard and hard cheddars in baking paper before wrapping them with cling film. If you have soft cheeses like buffalo mozzarella that are vacuum-packed with liquid, place them in a container of water.

2. Christmas Cookies

Do not mix cookies. The moisture from softer biscuits may affect the crunchy ones.

3. Salad greens

Choose crisp, clean leaves that are not browning. Wrap them in a damp paper towel and store them in a plastic bag. Dress salads just seconds before serving to ensure maximum freshness.

4. Seafood

Please keep it in original packaging until you are ready to use it. To reduce the risk of freezer damage, wrap each piece individually in cling film before bagging.

5. Eggs

Do you have eggs that are past their best-before date? Put the eggs in a bowl with water. If the egg is on its side, it’s fine. If it stands up, you can hard boil it.

6. Garlic

To peel garlic, slice off the flat side of the bulb and Cover the bulb with GLAD ClingWrap. Microwave on high for one minute. Remove ClingWrap when cooled and squeeze out the cloves. Magic!

7. Herbs

Herbs that have black or sludgy ends and leaves are old. Stand parsley and coriander in water to keep them at their best. Wrapping other herbs in a damp paper towel is a good idea, except for basil, which requires dry paper. Please place them in a plastic bag and put them in the refrigerator.

8. Berries

Berries are delicate. Rinse them right before using. Don’t submerge or soak them. It is believed that washing berries with a vinegar solution diluted to 1 part vinegar and three parts water will kill mold spores, allowing them to stay plump for up to a week longer.

9. Gravy

You can store gravy in the refrigerator for up to 2 days if you use cream or milk. Do not freeze the gravy, as it will separate upon thawing. Bring to a boil before serving.

10. Ham for Christmas

Hams should be salted or cured within one month of Christmas. Older hams may be plastic-like and hard to touch. Wrap leftovers and store them in a pillowcase or ham bag. They should keep for a couple of weeks. You can freeze cooked ham for quick omelets or carbonaras in the New Year.
